Member for Kam Lake
David Ramsay was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories in October of 2007 as the Member for Kam Lake in the 16th Assembly. He was first elected in December of 2003 to the 15th Assembly.
Mr. Ramsay was born in 1970 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He moved with his parents and two younger brothers to Yellowknife in 1980.
Mr. Ramsay graduated from Ecole St. Joseph School and St. Patrick High School in Yellowknife. He attended the University of New Brunswick from 1991-1995 where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
Mr. Ramsay was elected to the Yellowknife City Council for two terms, first in 1997 and again in 2000. Mr. Ramsay served as President of the Western Arctic Progressive Conservative Riding Association from 1998-2002.
Prior to being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ramsay worked as a Tourism Development Officer with Resources, Wildlife, and Economic Development. He was also a small business owner. In 1996 the Business Development Bank of Canada awarded Mr. Ramsay the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Mr. Ramsay enjoys being actively involved in the community. He is a charter member and first vice-president of the Yellowknife Kiwanis Club, a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and a participant in the annual Kid's Help Phone Bowl-a-thon. He enjoys playing golf in the summer and hockey in the winter.
