Biography

Tom Beaulieu was elected to the 16th Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories on October 1, 2007 as the Member for Tu Nedhe representing the communities of Fort Resolution and Lutsel Ke.

Mr. Beaulieu was born in Fort Resolution in 1958 where he grew up in a small house along with three brothers and a sister. Mr. Beaulieu has also lived in Rocher River, Hay River, Fort Smith, Pine Point, and Yellowknife, where he currently resides. As a child, his father taught Tom the life of a trapper and later in life, Mr. Beaulieu continued to trap, on and off, until the mid 1980s.

Mr. Beaulieu attended elementary school in Fort Resolution and high school in Fort Smith and Yellowknife. While at school in Fort Smith, Mr. Beaulieu was a resident at the prestigious Grandin College.

Mr. Beaulieu joined the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation in 1977 as a Program Officer Trainee. In that position he worked in the Corporation’s South Slave, North Slave and Western Arctic District Offices. From 1984 to 1990, Mr. Beaulieu was the District Manager of the South Slave District Office in Hay River. In 1990 he was appointed to the position of Senior District Operations Manager. Mr. Beaulieu took leave from the Housing Corporation in 1992 to study Public and Business Administration at Arctic College in Fort Smith. Upon returning to the Corporation in 1994 he was appointed District Director of the South Slave District, a position he held until 1997 when he was made Vice-President of the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation. 1n 2000, Mr. Beaulieu was appointed President of the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation. In 2004 he was appointed President/CEO of the Northwest Territories Development Corporation and in April 2005 he was appointed as Associate Deputy Minister of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Mr. Beaulieu has six children: Doreen Vogt, Garret Jones, Joshua Jones, Ron Lafferty, and Brittany and Zachary Beaulieu. Mr. Beaulieu enjoys spending his time hiking, walking and working around his Yellowknife home. He is an avid sports fan – of the couch variety.

Mr. Beaulieu considers both Fort Resolution and Hay River his hometowns. He has served two terms as a town councilor in Hay River. His mother and sister still live in Hay River, his brothers live in Yellowknife, and many members of his extended family continue to live in Fort Resolution.
